WHO WE ARE

American Friends of Pro Vita Orphanage (AFPVO) is a small US-based  501(c)(3) charity supporting almost 450 Romanian and Ukrainian residents/beneficiaries living in the Pro Vita community based in Valenii de Munte, Romania.  Pro Vita is the largest private residential social service organization in Romania, established in 1991 by Fr. Nikolai Tanase.  Its “open door” policy accepts children and adults of all ages including unmarried mothers-to-be, abused women and their children, and the elderly.

Since March 2022, Pro Vita has also assisted  in the resettlement of several hundred Ukrainian refugees.  Over 100 Ukrainain teens and elderly who were living in Ukrainian institutions are now living at Pro Vita residences, receiving food and housing, medical care, and in the case of the children, appropriate education in local Romanian schools.

HOW WE HELP

AFPVO’s goal is to provide a long-term financial lifeline to Pro Vita by raising monies from primarily U.S.-based donors.  We focus on construction projects, building and maintaining numerous residential locations in Valenii de Munte, Valea Plopului, and Valea Screzii.
