July Newsletter

Thanks to your generosity we have just sent $9000 to Pro Vita to buy the exterior doors and finish the roof on the new house in Valenii de Munte.  This is in addition to the $3500 sent earlier to buy all the interior doors.   Our 2014-15 campaign has raised more than $14,000 and has made a big difference in keeping the construction on the new house progressing.  We would like to give a special shout-out to our top donors:

Narcis & Adela Anghel – Jyoti Suri

Leigh & Dennis Maslanka – Jennifer Debrow

John & Marybeth Foarde – Alfred Moses

Margaret & John Repetti – Tony Christ

Florin Nicolae & Iulia Voica – Sara Maypole

We are continuing our partnership with Macy’s in their Shop for a Cause campaign.  Shopping discount passes for Aug 29, 2015 are available for $5.00 each.  Macy’s has just increased the discount from 25% to 30% on many items.  We have sold over 75 passes, raising $375.  Contact us if you want to buy any passes for your own use or to give to family and friends.  The passes are good at all Macy’s stores in the U.S., and AFPVO keeps all the money from the sale of the passes.  Thank you, Macy’s.

The following is an edited email from Mihail Tanase, received last week.  “Work on the new house is going well. This week (in about 2 days) we are starting on the roof. In the some time we are working on the interiors. On Friday after we carry the roof tiles up the roof we will fit the last windows on the second floor. We started today on the water pipes, heating, drainage, and the pipes for water in bathrooms.
Until now we have:

roof tiles (donated last year)
 interior doors (from AFPVO)
bathrooms fittings (shower and toilet) (donated by a company that saw the marathon on TV)
some of the electrical parts (brought)
some of the heating and water pipes and drainage for the bathrooms (about 20%) – donated by a friend.
What we dont have:
money for labour on the roof tiles
exterior doors (money just donated by AFPVO)
heating pipes (need to lay them before we start working on the interiors of the rooms and the floors of the bathrooms)
floor and wall tiles for the bathrooms
fittings for the bathrooms (water taps etc)
I am sending every day letters asking for materials to different companies. (It easier for them to donate materials and i found out over time that they prefer to give materials).”

Pro Vita just hosted their annual 100K marathon and raised over 10,000 Euros!

Please consider making a donation to AFPVO to ensure the new home for the teenage residents can be finished very soon.  Thank you all for “Opening the Doors to a Brighter Future” for these very deserving teenagers.
