May Update and Invitation

Now that the Easter celebrations have passed, we would like to reach out to all of you with an update and an invitation. Construction is progressing on the economic and administrative center in Valenii de Munte although stormy spring weather has hampered progress. New pictures are available in the Gallery on the website.

AFPVO always welcomes your financial contributions. Mihail Tanase has been his usual amazing self in successfully soliciting and obtaining significant amounts of in-kind donation of construction materials so your contributions to AFPVO can be used to fill in the financial gaps to ensure that construction continues on schedule.

A new film, Nothing but Ashes (or SCRUM in Romanian) is being developed by Romanian film makers, telling the story of Pro Vita and Fr. Nicolae Tanase. Two D.C. area Orthodox churches and their pastors, Fr. David Subu and Fr. Cosmin Antonescu, are hosting a fund-raising picnic and screening of the film’s trailer on Saturday, May 25 and 6PM and 7:30 PM respectively at St. Andrew Orthodox Church in Potomac, Md. All are invited. If you wish to contribute to the production and distribution costs of making this film, checks may be mailed to either:

St.Mary’s Church, 7223 Roosevelt Ave., Falls Church, VA 22042 (Fr. David Subu) or St. Andrew Romanian Orthodox Church, 9111 River Rd , Potomac, MD 20854 (Fr Cosmin Antonescu)

Please indicate that the donation is for the movie in the memo field of your check. AFPVO cannot directly contribute to this effort because of our 501 (c) 3 limitations, but we encourage all of you to consider doing so individually. All film profits will go to Pro Vita.

You can view the trailer at either of the following websites: https://www.nothingbutashes.net or https://www.scrumfilmul.ro

St. Andrew’s is also hosting a multi-day Romanian Festival May 17-19 at their Potomac location, featuring delicious foods, dancing, and fun for the whole family.

Fr. Sean, our AFPVO Board Chairman will visit Pro Vita in July, and Frank and Donna will also visit in October to discuss the needs and strategic priorities of the Pro Vita community going forward. Each trip is being funded by the traveller so every penny of your AFPVO contribution goes to support Pro Vita. Expect lots of news and photos after each visit!
